Lawton has around 30 years’ experience in human resources, learning and development, organisational development and employment law and 14 years working in the Education Sector.
Lawton has been a Human Resources practitioner in a number of organisations such as University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology, NZ Dairy Ltd (now Fonterra), Ngati Whatua o Orakei Trust, Framework Trust, Auckland Hospital, Auckland War Memorial Museum, and Auckland Regional Migrant Services.
Lawton has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and a Masters in Management (MMgt) and LLB (Hons). Lawton is of Maori-Chinese / German-Scottish descent. Whilst born in Otaki near Wellington (Ngati Raukawa / Ngai Tahu), Lawton was raised in the Nelson-Marlborough region. His interests include 60s-70s music, socialising, reading, travelling and yet more travelling. He also dedicates time to do voluntary work with organisations like the Northcote Community Centre, the Disabled Citizens Society, CanTeen and Youth Line.
