Bingcheng (Jackson) Wang – From China to New Zealand: My Creative Journey

When I first arrived in New Zealand, I was blown away by the beauty of everything around me - the sea, the natural environment, and the city itself. The lifestyle here really suits me, and I find the peaceful surroundings very inspiring for my creative work.

New Zealand has given me so much more than just an education. Living here, I feel like my creativity is constantly being sparked by the diversity of the people, the culture, and the environment. It’s a place where new ideas come easily, and I love how everything around me feeds into my design work.

After completing the Graduate Diploma of Creative Technologies (GDCT), I decided to continue my journey at Media Design School (MDS) by pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Design. It’s been an incredible experience, and I’m excited to keep exploring my passion for creativity and design.

From the moment I walked into Media Design School, I felt like it was the right place for me. The school’s professional yet creative environment made a big impression on me, and I knew it was the kind of space where I could grow as both an artist and a designer."

What I love most about MDS is the freedom to explore my own ideas. Back in China, projects often had more restrictions, but here at MDS, there are no limits. Whether you’re interested in animation, game design, or any other creative field, you can truly follow your passion and bring your vision to life.

As an international student, adjusting to a new culture wasn’t always easy, but it was a challenge that helped me grow. Coming from China, I had to adapt to different ways of thinking, but it also gave me a broader perspective. Working with people from all over the world has helped me integrate different cultural influences into my designs, which has made me a more well-rounded designer.

My experience at MDS has really shaped what I want to do in the future. I’m passionate about becoming a professional designer who not only creates visually stunning work but also thinks critically about solving real-world problems. For example, in one of my current projects, I’m designing a solution for visually impaired people. It’s something completely new to me, but it’s taught me how design can truly make a difference in people’s lives. For me, this journey isn’t just about learning technical skills—it’s about using design to create meaningful change. I’m excited about where my career will take me, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to explore the endless possibilities of creativity here at MDS.

If you’re thinking about studying abroad, I highly recommend New Zealand and Media Design School. MDS has given me the freedom to grow both as a student and as a professional. The supportive environment, access to cutting-edge technology, and encouragement to explore my own ideas have helped me become the best version of myself. I’m sure it will do the same for you.
