Students featured at the Moonlight Emerging Artist Exhibition

Specialist creative agency Raydar, in conjunction with The Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ), presented Moonlight, an exhibition to help cultivate the New Zealand creative community. Running from 2 - 12 July, the event featured work from 12 selected students and 12 established industry creatives. 

The exhibition was based on the premise that some of the brightest work happens after the sun goes down, revealing a unique side of creativity that is formed beyond the boundaries of the day. Tertiary students from around New Zealand were asked to submit these 'moonlight projects', and industry professionals then sifted through the many entries to select the 12 winners.

Third-year Bachelor of Media Design student, Pon HueyMin, and former student, Vincent Serval Mace, were among the selected exhibitors. They, along with the other chosen students, were paired with industry-leading mentors such as Damon Duncan (Co-Founder/Director, Assembly), Mike Davidson (Creative Director, Colenso BBDO), Fauze Hassen (Visual Artist, The Workshop), and one of our very own graduates, Amy Rose-Lynch (Art Director, DDB New Zealand).

Not only did the students work with their mentors to prepare for the exhibition, but they also got the opportunity to display their work alongside them in the exhibition itself.

To kick it off, Moonlight first held an online gallery in partnership with Ello, an international platform who have a global following of millions. Here, the students' work was exposed to the kind of audience that could not typically be conceived in a country such as New Zealand. The physical exhibition was held at the Allpress Studio in Auckland City, from 2 - 13 July. Jim Murrary, Department of Media Design co-ordinator, attended.

"It was great to see our students engaging in the industry and general public outside of the work they do at Media Design School. It was also really nice to see the creative and personal expression of our students, and have them actually exhibit it in a public forum and get positive feedback."
